Ascona C
|
|
Today I got a second Ascona. It's a C1-type from 1983, a type which is becoming rare. It has a 1600 cc engine with a 4-speed manual gearbox, good for 90 HP and a top speed of 175 km/h. The color is red metallic with a light brown interior, which looks very nice. It has ran some 156.000 km by now.
The full history is known, I got the car from the 2nd owner, who was the granddaughter of the 1st. Until 1994, the car stood in a garage, after 1994 outside. I have the bills of all repairs from 1994 onwards, so it's easy to check the history. In 1997, the car got a new camshaft, because it had apparently ran without engine oil.
The car is in good condition, only some parts have to be welded. Although the car looks very nice, some work has to be done to get it like my other Ascona:
-welding on bottom and wheel arch
-1 new tyre
-new grille
-new shock absorbers
-new stabilisator
-new dashboard (the old one is deformed due to exposure to the sun)
-1 seat has to be repaired
-and all things which will appear during restauration!

Ascona is @ home!
|
|
|
This is my new Opel Ascona. It has been built in 1979, and has been with the 1st owner until 2003. I am the third owner. It was always parked in a heated garage, and shows therefore no signs of rust. As I want to keep the car like this, it is under blankets in a heated garage now too. Until now, it has only ran 66.500 kilometres (about 41.300 miles). The pictures show that the car is like new, the interior shows no signs of wear, everything works (even the engine bay lighting - see photo!). So enjoy these pictures...to be updated soon!

This weekend, I went to Frisia, about 200-250 km from where I live. The weather was OK, but better was possible. Here are some images of this trip:

In January, I bought an extraordinary trailer: made of the rear half of an Opel Manta. In the meantime, I have restored it, and now I have a splendid eye-catcher!!!

This was a home match for me... A rally was organized by the shop owners' association of my village, 's-Gravenzande, nicknamed "het Breeje Durp" (the Wide Village). A nice 75 km-tour in my own region, very nice because I couldn't get lost this time Before and after the tour, the 37 cars which participated, were parked at the local market square, as can be seen on the pictures.

A non-profit annual event in which the old people of elderly home "De Doekenborg" in Nijmegen, are driven around in classic cars. I was asked to participate, so I thought: why not? It's a fantasic day for those people, of which they still talk months later. So the day before I drove to Nijmegen, a middle-size town near the German border, about 150 km from where I live. My parents had a weekend break and stayed in a hotel near Nijmegen, in a region that, because of the hills which are uncommon for Holland, is called "little Switzerland", although the hills are only 300 feet a.s.l. On my way to Nijmegen I found a speed trap on the highway. Because I had the time, I decided to take some picture of this automatic revenue device.
In Nijmegen I made a little tour in the surroundings, and across the border to the "Reichswald" (state forest). The day after, my parents went for a walk and I went to the elderly home. I was number 21, of a total of almost 40 cars. As expected, the old people enjoyed the drive around very much, and the weather was no reason to complain. Although rain was expected, it was dry most of the day. So we look back on a nice weekend

Today I went for a drive around the isles in the South-Western Dutch river delta. The organization was in the hands of the Opel Club again, and with the appearance of more than 30 Opels, we had no reason to complain. Unfortunately, the weather was very bad...cold, windy and rainy...

A gathering of almost 200 classic cars (not only Opels, in fact there were only 3) in the village of Voorschoten. Nice weather, classic cars from 1910 to 1980 and a free trip in an old Leyland city bus were the success formula to attract many visitors, not only from the village itself but from all over Holland! I didn't participate in the Concours d'Elegance (my car isn't that elegant ), however it was a nice day!
